What is the District Quality Index?

The District Quality Index (DQI) is our proprietary metric for evaluating school districts based on publicly available data from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Unlike simple test score rankings, DQI considers multiple factors that research shows impact student outcomes:

  • Class Size — Student-to-teacher ratios affect individualized attention
  • Graduation Rates — A key indicator of educational success
  • Student Retention — Lower dropout rates indicate engaged students
  • Per-Pupil Spending — Resources available for education
  • Staff Resources — Support staff and administrative capacity

Each district receives a score from 0-100 and is classified into tiers: Excellent, Above Average, Average, Below Average, or Needs Improvement.

Note: DQI provides one perspective on district quality. We recommend visiting schools, talking to parents, and considering your family's specific needs when choosing where to live.
